On July 25, 2023, the world was shocked to learn that Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James, had suffered a cardiac arrest while training with his university basketball team. Thankfully, Bronny is now out of danger and is recovering well. This event has understandably raised concerns about the risks of sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes. However, it is important to remember that cardiac arrest is a rare event, even in young people. In fact, the vast majority of young athletes who suffer cardiac arrest have underlying heart conditions that were previously unknown.
